Resolution To Declare Washington County, Virginia A Pro-Life County

This coming Tuesday (November 8, 2022) at 6:30, the Washington County, Virginia board of Supervisors will be meeting to consider Resolution 2022-24 that would declare Washington County, Virginia as a pro-life county. The main section of the Resolution reads as follows:

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Board of Supervisors of Washington County, Virginia declares that Washington County is a pro-life county and pledges to support this resolution by all means within its power.

BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Washington County, Virginia hereby declares that it has no interest in the recruitment, facilitation, or support of any companies or providers of whose business activities serve to initiate, support or expand abortion services and the Board shall oppose the establishment of any such facilities to the extent of their power as allowed by state and federal law.

What Are Biblical Reasons To Support This Resolution?

Simply put: LIFE MATTERS! It is not a right given to us by any person, any organization, or any government. Life is a gift from God that is precious and purposeful. The Bible makes is clear that life begins at conception and thus should be protected at every stage. Of the many reasons that we should encourage our Supervisors to pass Resolution 2022-24, here are two:

A) As Christians, we should stand up for Life

The very first gift given by God to man was life.

Genesis 2:7 states, “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

Life begins at conception and before the child is ever formed in the womb of a mother God has a purpose and plan for that life.

Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”

Life will cease when God decides, not when man decides. Aside from corporal punishment and in times of war, man has not been given the right or the responsibility to determine when a life should be ended. This is to be determined by God and by God alone.

B)  As Christians, we should stand up for the Next Generation

Psalm 78:4-8 says, “We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments: And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.”

I believe that we have the responsibility to vote for the next generation not on the back of, or at the expense of the next generation. We must show them the strength, the works, and the praises of the Lord.

As Americans, the very liberty and freedoms that we enjoy today are great gifts that have been provided for and preserved for us. It is now our responsibility to preserve them and to pass these same opportunities on to the next generation.
